Gujarat CM Rupani Opens Kazakhstan Consulate in Gandhinagar

  • The Kazakh consulate in Gandhinagar will be headed by Dilip Chandan, MD, Chandan Steel Ltd.

Gandhinagar (Gujarat), Dec.10, 2018: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani opened a consulate of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Rupani expressed confidence that the opening of the consulate would ensure a significant contribution to the deepening of bilateral economic ties and increase the flow of mutual investments between Kazakhstan and India, as also Kazakhstan and Gujarat.

Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to India Bulat Sarsenbayev noted the symbolism of the event on the eve of the 27th anniversary of the Independence Day of Kazakhstan.

He recalled the outstanding role essayed by Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev in the formation and development of the country. He expressed confidence that the consulate would contribute to the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Kazakhstan and India in the fields of IT industry, engineering, tourism and transport and logistics infrastructure, and agriculture.

Apart from Chief Minister Rupani and Ambassador Sarsenbayev, the opening ceremony of the consulate was attended by Gujarat’s Minister of Public Development Ramanbhai Patkar and Member of Parliament Devji Patel.

 The consulate in Gandhinagar will be headed by well-known businessman and Managing Director of Chandan Steel Limited, Mr. Dilip Chandan.

Chandan Steel Limited was founded in 1969 and is engaged in the production, rental and international export of metal and steel products, and is located in Gujarat.

Mr. Chandan is well known in government and business circles of the country. He is a member of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Managing Director of Chandan Minerals PL, Chandan Gemstones PL, Indic Geo Resources PL, Sach Geo Resources PL, Kalikund Investment B.V. Netherlands and several other well-known public organisations of India.

On Monday, Ambassador Sarsenbayev also delivered a lecture at the University of Gujarat, during which he familiarised the faculty and students of the university with the latest achievements of Kazakhstan-India relations, as well as the role of Kazakhstan in the international arena.

The audience showed deep interest in the success of Kazakhstan and especially in the recent Address of President Nazarbayev to the people of Kazakhstan, which was translated and distributed in Hindi as well.

The envoy also took part in a round table meeting with the representatives of the Gujarat Chambers of Commerce and Industry, where he introduced leading businessmen and representatives of the business community with the investment opportunities available to them in Kazakhstan.

He actively called for establishing mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation between the two countries during the interaction. Roundtable participants expressed interest in developing relations with Kazakhstan and wished success to the newly appointed Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Gujarat.

In the evening, a reception was held, which saw the participation of representatives of government, the Gujarat State Assembly, business circles and the diplomatic corps.

Gujarat is India’s main producer of tobacco, cotton and peanuts, rice, wheat, millet and corn. Sown area is almost half of the total area of the state. In addition, with developed dairy farming, Gujarat is India’s largest milk producer.

In addition, Gujarat, through the creation of the International Financial Center GIFT City in 2007, is the largest financial center in the country. Currently, about 300 international leading companies from around the globe operate at the financial center.

India's largest and most modern-equipped seaport Mundra has turned Gujarat into one of the country's main transport and logistics hubs.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi hails from Gujarat, where he served as  and was even twice elected to the post of chief minister for twelve-and-a-half years, from 2001 to 2014.
